A franchise cricket team based in Mohali, Punjab Kings (PBKS), has ended the long wait for the Indian Premier League (IPL) title since entering this new 2022 season. The team, previously known as the Kings XI Punjab (KXIP), has the PCA Stadium in Mohali as their home ground.
Led by Captain Mayank Agarwal under the restructured squad, PBKS is drifting away from the KL era where it has never won the IPL title. Their former captain KL Rahul was released at auction and he became the captain of the new IPL team, Lucknow Super Giants.
PBKS has been one of the most underperforming teams in the IPL's history. PBKS, on the other hand, has the talent and depth to finish in the top four. This season, head coach Anil Kumble and his partnership with Mayank will definitely be the center of attention since both of them will be under intense pressure to perform.
Punjab Kings (PBKS): Strengths and Weaknesses
Mayank and Arshdeep Singh were the only players retained by PBKS as they underwent a total rebuild. At the IPL auction, they were bought back by Shahrukh Khan and Harpreet Brar, among others. PBKS seems to be looking for power batters. When they bought Jonny Bairstow, Shikhar Dhawan, Liam Livingstone, and Odean Smith at the super auction, it was clear that they were serious about cricket.
After Rahul's departure, PBKS has another reliable opening pair in Dhawan and Mayank. The Punjab side has ample firepower in the middle-order with Bairstow and Livingstone, followed by Shahrukh, who has been a revelation in domestic white-ball events.
