CSK Ruturaj Gaikwad Gives Disappointing Performance on IPL 2022

Ruturaj Gaikwad brings about the most disappointing performance for the Chennai Super Kings in Indian Premier League 2022 across all three games they played. He was dismissed in all three games this season with only having scored either 0 or 1 run with a total of 2 runs off three games.

He was dismissed immediately in a match against the Kolkata Knight Riders by pacer Umesh Yadav with a score of 0 or a duck. He scored one run and was removed by Ravi Bishnoi in a game against Lucknow Super Giants. In a match against Punjab Kings last Sunday, April 3, 2022, IPL 2021 Orange Cap winner only scored one run.

Gaikwad's performance this year is quite a contrast compared to last year’s IPL. He scored 635 runs with four halves and one century across 16 games in IPL 202. The right-handed batter is regarded as the highest score runner in the season.

CSK captain Ravindra Jadeja defended Gaikwad at the post-match presentation. “We need to give him confidence, we need to back him, we all know that he’s a very good player. We’ll definitely back him and I am sure that he’ll come good,” Jadeja said.

Three defeats in a row

Chennai lost this season’s IPL against PBKS in a game held last Sunday at Brabourne Stadium. The four-time champion might not lift its fifth title this season with the performance of three losses in a row and no win so far.

They lost by 54 runs against Punjab when they took the pitch in the second innings. They must sprint to chase the 180 runs off 20 overs previously scored by PBKS but they do not seem to have run at all. Instead, they jog between wickets with 126 off 18 overs as their final score.

“I think we lost too many wickets in the powerplay. We did not find the momentum from ball one, so we need to find ways to get better and come back stronger,” Captain Jadeja said.

Meanwhile, Shivam Dube was able to lift the team a little bit by scoring a half-century which is his second in the 2022 season. He is another international player besides the duo bowler Dwaine Pretorius and Chris Jordan. Dube was the top scorer in the second innings of Sunday’s match with 57 runs off 30 balls.

“He has been batting really well,” Jadeja praised Dube. “He has been batting really well and he batted well today too. I think keeping him in a good frame of mind would be the key.”

CSK will come back to the field on April 9 in a game against Sunrisers Hyderabad at DY Patil Stadium. They must work extra hard to avoid losing for the fourth time since the beginning of the season.

“Definitely, we will work hard and come back stronger,” said the skipper ending his statement.
