No foreign players to participate in IPL 2020 until April 15 at the earliest – VISA suspended
Due to the growing concern around the coronavirus outbreak. The Indian Government has decided to suspend all tourist VISA in the country affecting the IPL 2020. The suspension has made it almost impossible for foreign players to join their respective teams. The 13th edition of the IPL (Indian Premier League) will surely suffer from this. Nothing will change until April 15 unless the Board of Control for Cricket in India gives special permission.
Most of the foreign players in the IPL 2020 are traveling on a business VISA. Making it impossible for them to join their team unless they get special permission.
In the meeting, which was called for on short notice. The Indian Government decided:
- All existing VISAs except diplomatic, official and UN/International will be suspended
- Employment VISA and certain project VISAs will also still be valid after the decision
The reason for the Indian Government’s decision is clear. On Wednesday it was declared by the WHO (World Health Organisation) that the coronavirus is considered a pandemic. “We expect to see the number of cases, and the number of affected countries, climb even higher”. Said WHO Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus.
