New Format, New Rules

This year, Chennai Super Kings, Delhi Capitals, Punjab Kings, Kolkata Knight Riders, Mumbai Indians, Rajasthan Royals, Royal Challengers Bangalore, Sunrisers Hyderabad, Ahmedabad Lions, and Lucknow Nawabs will be participating in the event.

Previously, it is known that the 8 teams will be playing 60 matches in total. This way, each team will play 14 league matches, facing each team twice in the league match. However, the IPL came up with a new format in the way matches will be conducted. With Gujarat Titans and Lucknow Super Giants becoming new additions, the league now has 10 teams in total.

Due to this difference in number, these 10 teams will be divided into two equal groups based on their IPL final wins and final appearances. A random draw will be used to determine who plays whom across the groups once and twice. The teams will still be playing 14 league matches with 7 matches on their home ground and others on an away ground.

This season, each team will be awarded 2 points upon each victory and 1 point in each draw or no result.
