'No weak links' for Delhi Capitals, says Shane Watson as Mitchell Marsh prepares to return

The Delhi Capitals’ Mitchell Marsh will return to the field after his hip-flexor injury. The team responded with joy, and assistant coach Shane Watson said that DC will be "really hard to beat" with Marsh’s return.

"I think we've got one of the strongest teams now and now Mitchell Marsh is going to be coming back in. It's looking like he'd be coming in for the next game... We're not going to have too many, no real weak links at all now with just the way the franchise picked up players at the auction," Capitals batsman David Warner said.

At Wankhede Stadium, Mumbai, DC will be up against Royal Challengers Bangalore on Saturday for the 27th match. Along with key players like Shardul Thakur, David Warner, Axar Patel, and captain Rishabh Pant, the team is optimistic about the upcoming match.

Mitchell Marsh’s injury

During last month’s white-ball leg of the Pakistan tour, Marsh had a hip flexor while training. He was rushed for a scan, and he might not be able to join the 2022 IPL. At the usual rate, the player will need approximately 6 weeks of recovery if the strain is severe enough.

The injury caused him to feel pain when he was about to throw during an intense and lateral movement drill. Hip flexors are the group of muscles that allow us to lift our knees, which can tear apart when they are overused.

Hip flexor injuries are divided into three grades depending on the severity. A grade-A injury occurs when only a few fibres are damaged, a grade B injury occurs when moderate strain causes loss of hip flexor function, and a grade C injury occurs when the muscle is completely torn. Fortunately, the scan result showed that Marsh’s injury was a low-grade one.

DC vs RCB upcoming match

DC is currently in eighth place in the 2022 IPL Standings and has never won a crown in the IPL's history. However, DC is planning to give their best shot this season. During the mega auction in February, DC acquired many star players, some of whom were David Warner, Mitchell Marsh, Shardul Thakur, Chetan Sakariya, and Rovman Powell.

In this season, DC has won two out of four matches. Their latest win was from a match against the Kolkata Knight Riders, which they won by 44 runs. In the upcoming match, DC will have these players in the following positions:

- Batsman: Rishabh Pant (c), Prithvi Shaw, David Warner, Ashwin Hebbar, Sarfaraz Khan, KS Bharat, Mandeep Singh, Yash Dhull, Rovman Powell, and Tim Seifert.

- Bowler: Anrich Nortje, Kamlesh Nagarkoti, Shardul Thakur, Mustafizur Rahman, Kuldeep Yadav, Khaleel Ahmed, Chetan Sakariya, Pravin Dubey, and Lungi Ngidi.

- Wicket-takers: Rishabh Pant and KS Bharat.

- All-rounder: Axar Patel, Mitchell Marsh, Lalit Yadav, Ripal Patel, and Vicky Ostwal.

DC had met RCB 28 times, with 10 wins for DC and 17 wins for RCB. In the last five matches, DC snatched three wins, and the rest went to RCB. Statistically speaking, RCB has a higher number of wins and is even ranked higher in the 2022 IPL Standings. However, DC’s team form, and the return of Marsh, shows that DC is more likely to win the upcoming match against RCB.
