SRH skipper Kane Williamson shares thoughts on recent match against Gujarat Titans

The Sunrisers Hyderabad skipper Kane Williamson shares his thoughts on the team’s match against the Gujarat Titans on Wednesday. He praised his opponent for the great performance they showed at the match. He also praised his teammate Umran Malik for carrying the team and named him player of the match.

Williamson on Titans

“It was a fantastic game of cricket that ebbed and flowed throughout the 40 overs, it’s a game of very fine margins. Could have gone either ways, but a great learning for us. Another strong performance at the top of the table though," Williamson said post-match.

“Sometimes you are blown away by the better side, credit to them (GT) as they played outstandingly well."

The skipper also praised GT Rashid Khan for scoring 31 runs not out off 11 balls. Rashid was the last batsman for the Titans and one of the reasons why Gujarat won on Wednesday.

“He (Rashid) has done it already in this tournament, and he has done it again. There’s a lot of learning for us, but with two strong sides such things happen," Williamson said.

Williamson on teammates

The skipper also praised his teammates who gave great performances in the last match. He also said he would take the match as a learning experience for the next games.

He is happy for bowler Umran Malik for his performance as he was able to take out five wickets in the second innings.

"He (Malik) has been bowling beautifully, an outstanding performance by him. If you are not on the money, the ball can fly anywhere,” Williamson said.

The captain later lauded teammate Shashank Singh who scored a chain of three 6s bowled by Lockie Ferguson in the last over of the first innings.

“It was a fantastic finish by Shashank Singh, he played beautifully. Credit to Gujarat as they played outstandingly well, we’ll take positives out of this game," Williamson said.

But the 31-year-old New Zealand captain also mentioned a learning opportunity from Marco Jansen. Jansen was the bowler of the last over of the second innings when the tide of the match turned against them. He was supposed to defend 23 but GT’s batsman instead hit four 6s in the last over.

“He (Jansen) will bounce back nicely, there have been a number of games like these," Williamson assured.

Match review

GT went against SRH as the 40th match out of 70 in the IPL 2022 season. It was held on Wednesday at Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai. The game ended with the Titans bringing home the victory for Gujarat.

Hyderabad batted in the first innings since the Titans decided to bowl after winning the toss. The Sunrisers were able to score an incredible 195 runs in 20 overs. Two players scored more than a half-century with Abhishek Sharma at 65 runs off 42 balls and Aiden Markram at 56 runs off 40 balls.

The Titans then batted in the second innings and had to chase the score. They were successful by having 5 wickets left while scoring 199 runs in exactly 20 overs. The top players for the team were Wriddhiman Saha at 68 runs off 38 balls, Rahul Tewatia at 40 runs not out off 21 balls, and Rashid Khan at 31 runs not out off 11 balls.

Now Gujarat is ranked first in the IPL 2022 by winning seven out of eight matches. While the Sunrisers are ranked in third place for winning five out of eight matches. The defeat by GT breaks the five-win chain SRH had previously.

SRH will go against the Chennai Super Kings on Sunday, while the Titans are facing the Royal Challengers Bangalore on Saturday.
