Team India: Deepak Chahar to miss ICC T20 World Cup following back injury

Chennai Super Kings player Deepak Chahar is predicted to miss the ICC T20 World Cup 2022 tournament for having to tend to his injuries gained back in February. The pacer is currently out of cricket for four months due to a back injury which prohibits him from participating in the currently playing T20 Indian Premier League 2022 tournament.

Chahar got his injury at the limited-over series of the National Cricket Academy in Bengaluru. He played for India at the time and faced West Indies.

He was initially told to recover fully near the end of April thus able to join the IPL. He even planned to play in the second week of April. But his quadriceps tear is too severe to heal within the time span. Thus he is forced to stay out of the entire season of IPL this year.

Chahar's absence from the IPL might be the decisive force behind CSK’s current poor performance in the T20 tournament. The team has seen loss after loss within four matches in a row with only one recent win against Royal Challengers Bangalore.

Chennai actually won him over at the mega auction in February before his injury in a match against West Indies. The team bought him for INR 14 crores thinking he would play in the IPL 2022. The team did not go cheap for one of the best players in the CSK team.

Chahar has experience in playing at the international level including seven ODIs and T20 matches. He was able to take out 10 wickets in ODI and 26 in international T20. In IPL, he has recorded 59 wickets across 63 games in the tournament in his all appearances.

Not only the World Cup, but Chahar might also miss joining Team India in the limited-overs matches tournament in South Africa.

Chahar Replacement

Four players are predicted to be the most likely to replace Chahar in the ICC World Cup 2022 tournament. Thus four other pacers are prepared to replace him on the roster. They are Umesh Yadav, Umran Malik, T Natarajan, and Khaleel Ahmed.

Yadav is one of the best bowlers in the Indian Premier League 2022 for the Kolkata Knight Riders team. He took the early wickets in the powerplay overs.

Pacer Malik joined team Sunrisers Hyderabad in the IPL 2022 and has potential if he works on his line and length bowl. Also playing for the SRH in the IPL is T Natarajan with his left-arm fast bowling and great performance in Australia in 2021.

Wicket-taking Ahmed is playing with Delhi Capitals in IPL 2022 and just like Natarajan. He is a left-arm pacer who will offer advantages in the T20I games.

The ICC World Cup 2022 this year is held in October and November in Australia.
