IPL 2021 MVP Award Predictions - The Top Contenders
Andre Russell
The danger man from Kolkata Knight Riders, Andre Russell truly exploded on the IPL stage in recent years after an underwhelming start for his previous team the Delhi Daredevils. The 2019 IPL saw the very best of Russell as he smashed 510 runs in just 249 balls for a tournament record strike rate of 204.81!
His season was studded with 52 sixes in just 13 innings at an astonishing rate of 4 per game, as he destroyed every bowling attack in an unprecedented manner and ended up winning the MVP award. With the ball, Russell was handy as he took 11 wickets in 14 matches, though regular shoulder injuries prevented him from being more effective.
Russell is probably the biggest game-changer in the IPL currently, and can change the course of the game with a 3 over dash with the bat or a couple of quick wickets with the ball as well, making him the favourite to win the MVP award, an award he’s won twice already.
Russel is the favourite at 13.00 to win this award for the 3rd time – a record.
Ben Stokes
Arguably THE best all-rounder in all 3 formats of world cricket currently, Ben Stokes is a freak of nature. The most influential cricketer in the world over the last two years, expect him to be knighted soon for his efforts leading England to their first ever World Cup title in 2019!
Ben Stokes has played 3 seasons in the IPL, but admitted himself that he hasn’t had a lot of influence yet and would like that to change in the 2020 edition. That being said, Stokes exploded in the 2017 edition of the IPL, when he was also the most expensive player purchased at the auction.
Scoring 316 runs including a brilliant century in just 12 innings at a strike rate of 142 made him one of the key batsmen for the Rising Pune Supergiants, while he was also more than handy with the ball as he took 12 wickets. His all-round contribution led RPS to their first ever final and he was awarded the 2017 MVP award, something he would be keen to win again.
Last season, he joined the Rajasthan Royals campaign midway and immediately got going, with 280 runs in just 8 innings at an average of over 40, with a stunning century to boot.
Stokes is 14.00 to win the MVP award for the 2nd time.
Glenn Maxwell
Probably the biggest hitter in the current Australian line-up, Maxwell, appropriately nicknamed “The Big Show”, is definitely a huge entertainer and a firm crowd-favourite in India.
A mighty slogger of the white ball, Maxwell’s best areas are over mid-wicket and over long-on, however he has also innovated a few of the latest trending shots, including all kinds of scoops over the keeper as well as his trademark reverse-hit / reverse sweep, which he hits with such power that more often than not the ball clears the rope!
He is also a very handy bowling option and even opened the bowling attack last season. He has 19 IPL wickets to his name and is a good 6th option. Maxwell is also one of the best fielders in the world and has taken some absolutely blinding catches in the IPL over the last 8 years. He was snapped up for a mammoth 14.25 crores by RCB in the 2021 IPL auctions, and will be looking to set the league alight once more with his all-round performances.
Maxwell is 13.50 to win the MVP award for the 2021 IPL Season, which would be his 2nd award, after winning it back in 2014.
Why should you bet on Glenn Maxwell to win the MVP Award ?
- A new team and a new role will benefit him.
- Impeccable form for Australia over the past 1 year.
- A solid batting order before him will help him play more freely.
