IPL 2021 Purple Cap Award - Top Contenders

Jasprit Bumrah

India’s premier pace bowler is a sight to behold when in full flow. His lethal Yorkers at devastating pace have made him one of the most feared bowlers in international cricket as well as the IPL over the years.

Bumrah has been a big part of the Mumbai Indians unrivalled success in recent years, including their back-to-back trophy lifts in the last 2 seasons, where he has picked up 46 wickets.

Bumrah has picked up a total of 109 wickets in 92 matches, including 27 wickets last season to emerge as the second-highest wicket-taker in the league, as MI romped to a record 5th IPL title.

Bumrah is the favourite to win the 2021 IPL Purple Cap at 7.00.

Rashid Khan

The Afghan spin sensation, one of the most highly rated spinners in recent times, is probably the most inspirational story in the cricket world.

Coming from a war-torn country and taking the IPL by storm, Rashid has arguably been the most consistent bowler in the league since his debut. The mystery spinner has taken 75 wickets in the last 4 seasons, at an alarmingly low economy rate of below 6.05. He is one of the hardest bowlers to score against, and those who dare to try often end up sacrificing their wicket.

Rashid is still young and has further developed into a top-class cricketer, hence it wouldn’t be a surprise if he takes his game to the next level this season and hunts down the purple cap.

Last season, the young mystery spinner took 20 wickets in just 16 innings, and now Rashid is the 3rd favourite to win the 2021 IPL Purple Cap at 8.50.

Kagiso Rabada

Kagiso Rabada almost single handedly turned the Delhi Capitals into a force to be reckoned with in the last two seasons, with a staggering 55 wickets in just 29 innings, boasting of the league’s best bowling average of under 15!

He was sorely missed in the play-offs as Delhi crashed out without his services in 2019, where he also bowled what was probably the ball of the tournament, a mesmerizing yorker which uprooted Andre Russel’s middle stump in a crunch super over.

However, he made up for it in the 2020 season, where he won the IPL Purple Cap with 30 wickets in just 17 innings, as DC reached their first ever final. Rabada also took 4 wickets in a crunch qualifier match against the SRH, which helped his team reach the final. The Delhi Capitals are the second-favourites for this year’s tournament, and Rabada could have a huge say in their title challenge, while also fighting for his maiden Purple Cap.

Rabada is the second-favourite at 7.50 to retain his Purple Cap award.

Why should you bet on Kagiso Rabada to win the Purple Cap Award ?

  • Highest wicket-taker in the last 2 seasons – 55 wickets in 29 matches.
  • Current Purple Cap holder.
  • A very solid team surrounding him, allowing him to take risks.
