IPL 2022: Anrich Nortje Bowled 141.4 Kph Beamer Toward Quinton De Kock

Quinton de Kock became the highlight in the match between Delhi Capitals and Lucknow Super Giants last Thursday in the 2022 season of the Indian Premier League. He was presented with a beamer by pacer Anrich Nortje yet the batsman still stayed on top.

DC South African premier pacer Nortcje bowled a 141.4 kph beamer at LSG De Kock in the first ball of the 14th over of the second innings. The ball went above his waist which might cause him a serious injury if hit. But De Kock miraculously was able to bat the ball and scored a six since the ball went over the third man.

Nortje then apologized right after the bowl. The beamer might be caused due to the dewy condition of the stadium causing the ball to slip off his hand. For this mistake, the umpire decided for no-ball and a free hit penalty. It gives the batsman a dismissal immunity on one extra bowl in an over.

But Nortje then bowled a second beamer towards Deepak Hooda in the next over right after De Kock’s. The two-times beamer forbids him from bowling again for the rest of the match and the umpire also gives a no-ball. The two-timing beamer penalty is the current law of cricket where the MCC changed the rule on April 1, 2019.

This is Nortje’s first-ever game in this season of the IPL and he was disallowed from bowling during the game in his third over in an innings. He is replaced by Kuldeep Yadav.
