IPL 2022: Gujarat Titans vs Lucknow Super Giants Match 57 Preview, Team Overview

The two board leaders for the 2022 season of the Indian Premier League are going to play against each other today. IPL’s first-rank Lucknow Super Giants will play against second-rank Gujarat Titans this afternoon. The outcome of today’s match will determine which team will actually lead the IPL into the play-off.

The game between GT and LSG will play on Tuesday, May 10, 2022, at Maharashtra Cricket Association Stadium in Pune. It is the 57th game out of 74 in the IPL 2022 season.

The pitch in Pune is known for having a slower side where eight out of eleven teams played in the stadium have won by batting in the first innings, meaning the trend might also reach today’s match. Thus, the team that wins the coin toss today perhaps would like to bat first as well.

Team's preview

Both teams are new to the IPL but nevertheless are able to top the leaderboard this season. They are actually tied in the first place by having 16 points in the IPL 2022. They both have won eight and lost three games across 11 matches they played.

GT and LSG have faced each other in the past. It was their first-ever match in the IPL and is the fourth game in the season. The game was held on March 28, 2022, at Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai. The Titans won by 5 wickets with 2 balls left in the innings.

GT is currently in a not-so-well position for winning today as it lost twice in a row in their latest games. They lost against Punjab Kings by a wide margin on May 3. They then lost on May 6 against the Mumbai Indians who are known for their long chain of losing streaks throughout the season.

GT has lost three games in total in this season of the IPL. Their first loss was against Sunrisers Hyderabad back on April 11.

LSG is in a better position than its opponent by recently winning four games back to back. They won against MI, PBKS, Delhi Capitals, then Kolkata Knight Riders. Their three losses this season were against GT, Rajasthan Royals, and Royal Challengers Bangalore.

“Don't think any team is going to be perfect, and anyway we aren't chasing that,” said LSG skipper KL Rahul on the team’s performance consistency. “Don't know if we're peaking at the right time but we're getting the wins; we're doing what is expected of us, sticking to our plans.”

Next matches

Both teams are set to play two more games to enter the play-off after facing each other. They coincidentally will play their next games on the same day on Sunday where LSG will go against RR and GT against Chennai Super Kings.

Their last game in the IPL is then held on two different days next week. LSG will play against KKR on Wednesday, May 18, and GT against RCB on Thursday, May 19.

GT and LSG must prepare themselves against two other teams currently placed third and fourth in the IPL. Both RR and RCB have won seven games in the 11 and 12 games they played respectively. The two teams are most likely to join the leaders for the opportunity of snatching the IPL trophy to their own homes.
