IPL 2022: MS Dhoni surpasses 7000 runs mark in T20 Cricket

Chennai Super Kings captain MS Dhoni takes over the sixth position in the list of India’s highest run-getter, passing the 7000-run mark in T20 cricket. The total run came from playing with CSK with 4,687 runs, 1,617 from India, 574 from Rising Pune Supergiants, and 123 for Jharkhand.

He was at 6,985 runs before the match against Lucknow Super Giants at Brabourne Stadium, Mumbai, on Thursday. With the match passed, Dhoni is at 7,001 runs by contributing 16 runs off 6 balls for CSK.

The match started with CSK taking the pitch in the first innings. They gained 210 runs in 20 overs. But they still lose by six wickets with LSG scoring 211 runs in 19.3 overs.

This is CSK’s second loss in the IPL 2022 season. The first was against Kolkata Knight Rider on March 26 by five wickets.

The list

Virat Kohli lead the India T20 top run list with 10,326 runs and he took the fifth position globally. The highest run by a batter is Chris Gayle of West Indies with 14,562 runs. The second to fourth are Shoaib Malik, Kieron Pollard, and Aaron Finch.

The Indian list from second to fifth are Rohit Sharma with 9,936 runs, Suresh Raina with 8654 runs, Shikhar Dhawan with 8,818 runs, and Robin Uthappa with 7,070 runs. With Dhoni’s latest match, he earned the sixth spot on the list at 7,001 runs.

Jersey No. 7

MS Dhoni shares his reason why he chose the number 7 for his jersey. It is not because the Chennai skipper thought it is a lucky number though since he admits to not believing in superstitions. He chose 7 because he was born on July 7.

"A lot of people initially thought that 7 is a lucky number for me and all of that. But I chose the number for a very simple reason. I was born on the 7th of July. So, it's the 7th day of the 7th month, that was the reason,” Dhoni said on a video posted by CSK's official channel on YouTube.

“Rather than getting into all the different things as to what number is a good number and all, I thought I will use my date of birth as the number. What people kept asking me about it, I used to frame different answers.”

He also shared another reason for choosing the number. He said it is a neutral number and it is a very nostalgic part of him.

"A lot of people said 7 is a neutral number and even if it doesn't work for you, it doesn't really go against you. That also I added to my answer. I am not very superstitious about it, but it's one number that is close to my heart and I have kept it over the years with me," said Dhoni.
