IPL 2022: Shikhar Dhawan reaches several milestones in match against Chennai Super Kings

Punjab King’s batsman Shikhar Dhawan broke two milestones in last night’s match in the Indian Premier League 2022 T20 tournament. He officially played 200 matches in the IPL as well as scoring his 6000 runs. He runs his 60th-century mark in the second over of the first innings of the game against Chennai Super Kings.

Dhawan is now ranked second as one of the players to score the most runs in the IPL history. He is just below the legend Virat Kohli of Royal Challengers Bangalore who currently holds the title at 6402 runs. Although, Dhawan might be able to surpass Kohli sooner or later since the legend has been giving poor performances lately.

The list of top-scoring players in the IPL is a five-member list. The other three players after Dhawan are Mumbai Indians’ Rohit Sharma with 5764 runs, Delhi Capitals’ David Warner at 5663 runs, and CSK’s former player Suresh Raina at 5528 runs.

Dhawan also passed the 9000 runs milestone in T20 cricket tournaments with 9004 runs. Among this list is Kohli at 10392 runs and Sharma at 10048 runs. Dhawan passed the threshold as he batted a six bowled by Maheesh Theekshana over the mid-wicket fence.

The left-handed batsman is the opener of last Monday’s match where PBKS bats first. He managed to score almost a century at 88 runs not out off 59 balls. Within the score are nine 4s and two 6s. For the accomplishment, he was titled player of the match of the game.

Dhawan almost returned to play for his former team Delhi Capitals. But DC is, unfortunately, unable to retain him since PBKS outbids them at Rs 8.25 crore. With the new team, he is able to score two half-centuries this season of IPL.

PBKS vs CSK

PBKS went against CSK on Monday, April 25, 2022, in the Wankhede Stadium, Mumbai. It is the 38 out of 70 matches in the IPL 2022. It ends with PBKS winning the game by 11 runs.

The game starts with PBKS batting first as CSK chose to bowl in the first innings after winning the toss. The team ended up scoring a total of 187 runs in 20 overs. The top scorer for PBKS is Dhawan, as well as Bhanuka Rajapaksa with 42 runs off 32 balls and Liam Livingstone with 19 runs off 7 balls.

The second innings started with CSK batting. Unfortunately, the team was unable to catch up with their opponent’s score and ended the innings at 176 runs in 20 overs. It is quite a shame since one player Ambati Rayudu socred near a century at 78 runs off 39 balls. And skipper Ravindra Jadeja who closed the innings was unable to close to the short gap between the score as he bats last and was only able to get 21 runs not out off 16 balls.

Punjab is now in sixth place among other teams in the IPL by having four wins after eight games. While Chennai is ninth out of ten teams after winning only two out of eight games.
