Delhi Capitals opening batsman David Warner just reached a historic milestone as Delhi beat the Kolkata Knight Riders by 4 wickets. Warner is officially the only cricket player to ever score 1000 runs against two teams in the history of the Indian Premier T20 League.

He passed the achievement first against the Punjab Kings and recently KKR. The 35-year-old is the second person to achieve the feat against Kolkata after Rohit Sharma.

Another person who has also scored 1000 runs against a team is Shikhar Dhawan against the Chennai Super Kings.

Match review

DC played against KKR on Thursday, April 28, 2022, at Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai. It was the 41st game out of 70 in the IPL 2022 T20 tournament. The match ended with Delhi winning by 4 wickets and 6 balls left.

The match started with Kolkata batted in the first innings since DC decided to bowl after winning the toss. The innings ended with the team scoring 146 runs in 20 overs. They almost lost their chance to bowl to the last over as they already lost 9 wickets as the innings ended.

DC then took the bat in the second innings and was able to surpass the score at the end of the 19th over.

The top scorer for DC was Warner just under a half-century at 42 runs off 26 balls which includes eight 4s. Trailing behind him as top scorers are Rovman Powell at 33 runs not out off 16 balls, and Axar Patel at 24 runs off 17 balls.

Kuldeep Yadav won the player of the match title for his accomplishment of taking out 4 wickets and conceding 14 runs within 3 overs.

“We were thinking (of the wobble) because we lost too many wickets in the middle but at the same time, we thought if we take the game deep, we can win it,” Delhi skipper Rishabh Pant commented on the game post-match.

Pant also said he was waiting for Khaleel Ahmed to return to the team after his hamstring injury is healed. Thus making the team a complete XI.

“We haven't thought (about this as the best XI) as hundred percent. Khaleel got injured and that was a forced change, once he is back then we will have our best XI."

"We see him (Powell) as a finisher but like today when we lost too many wickets, he has to come up and do the job. We are not thinking about the points table and take one game at a time. We have to be more clear with our plans and that is something we can improve," the captain added while mentioning Rovman Powell’s performance in the game.

With the recent win, DC is now ranked 6th while KKR is ranked 8th in the IPL 2022. DC’s next match is held this Sunday against the Lucknow Super Giants and KRR on Monday against the Rajasthan Royals.
